The John Muir Trust Diary
Inspired by Nature
The John Muir Trust Wild Nature Diary was first published in 1995 and now celebrates its twelfth edition. The Diary was inspired initially by the very fine Engagement Diary published by the Sierra Club of San Francisco, (of which John Muir was the founding president) and which still dominates the engagement calendar market in the USA. The John Muir Trust, based in Scotland, agreed that we could produce a fine diary based on the theme of celebrating nature through powerful images of the natural landscape of wilderness, predominantly Scotland but also Britain and other wild regions of the world. John Muir's message about the necessity of contact with wilderness was rooted in Scotland and California in which he was most deeply influenced, but extends to the importance of wild places throughout the world.
The design of the diary enables one to enjoy a new scene each week. The photographs themselves depict only natural scenes, textures, flora and fauna relevant in their true state of seasonal cycle. For easy and practical use, a year planner is included, a notes page and annual editorial pages from the editor, the John Muir Trust and its patron, H.R.H. Prince of Wales.
This Diary has become a showcase of some of the finest 'wilderness' photography in Britain demonstrating the infinite variety and ineffable beauty of wild places of the world and its relevance in our lives.
